Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Can I use the Baltic Pine & Oregon boards as every day chopping boards?

No it is not recommended to do so. Due to the nature of the reclaimed timber the boards can have small holes/cracks and no one wants bacteria getting caught inside. They're also a softwood meaning they will mark a lot easier than a standard hardwood chopping board.

Can I choose the exact colour tone/grain effect on my board?

Unfortunately not whilst the boards purchased will be made from the timber species listed the exact board will differ slightly from pictured. Timber is a beautiful product and each piece is truly one of a kind.

How do I care for the serving boards?

Each board is stripped back to raw before going through a few more processes and finished with Gilly's food safe wax (easily available at Bunnings nationwide or via Gillys own website) when serving a greasy food it is recommended to line with baking paper underneath. To clean simply wipe clean with a non abrasive cleaner DO NOT SUBMERGE UNDER WATER. I prefer the natural patina that occurs over time after use however if you wish you may lightly sand with a 120-240 grit sandpaper and refinish with food safe wax.

Where can I view the range?

The full range is available for purchase online. My studio is in Macclesfield South Australia and visits are available via appointment to view the sample wall and order. I'm also stocked nationwide in beautiful stores across Australia. Follow along on instagram @Ivyalicevintage to see more.

What's the refund policy?

Can I order a board in a different size or style?

Yes, of course! I adore creating custom pieces and would love to hear from you. Email me at ivyalicevintage@gmail.com to discuss more.

How do I care for the chopping boards?

After using a chopping board it's best to wash with dishwashing detergent and wipe it with a brush/cloth. Do not leave submerged under water. Dry it immediately and preferably store it upright (this greatly reduces the chances of warping - not applicable to the Butchers Block)

Besides keeping a chopping board clean it's important to keep in good condition, meaning applying oil, ideally once or twice a month if using daily. All Chopping Boards/Butchers Blocks are finished with multiple coats of 100% pure food safe Australian Tung Oil (Gillys - available nationwide at Bunnings) apply after the board has been cleaned and left to dry completely. Whatever food safe oil you choose ensure you follow the product instructions.

Can I collect my order from your studio?

If you're in South Australia and would like to collect your order from the studio in Macclesfield contact me via email ivyalicevintage@gmail.com prior to checking out and I'll arrange for you.

What is reclaimed timber?

Reclaimed timber refers to wood that has been salvaged and repurpose to give a new life. All reclaimed timber used at IvyAliceVintage has been locally sourced in South Australia from the dismantling of old schools, churches, buildings and homes. You may notice small holes where the timber was previously fixed down and if you look closely especially on the Baltic Pine boards you'll notice that one side is slightly lighter than the other. Originally the lighter side was face down in its original structure meaning protected from the elements and the slightly darker the topside that was exposed.

What if the item I want is sold out?

All boards are made to order to minimise waste, ensure enough materials and maintain lead times. Being a one person operation its important to keep on top of the work flow. Rest assured I'm always sourcing more timber and if you click on the notify me button on the product page if your desired board is out of stock you'll be the first to know when available again.

When will my order dispatch?

Each piece is made to order. There are over 30 different styles which makes it impossible to keep stock of each. Please allow up to four weeks for all orders as stated on each product page and up to 6 weeks for any custom orders.
